I am really slipping into holiday mode here. I live in a house where everyone except me likes to sleep in. So here I am, on another peaceful quiet morning (well yes, except for Andy... who decided today would not be a sleep in day again, and he's out the back singing with his ipod) enjoying another thought provoking movie on Foxtel.
Pleasantville. I know Cleo and Lachie have watched it, but I have never sat down and watched it properly. It's about two kids, living in current times, who get swept into a tv show, through their tv, and end up living in Pleasantville. Where everything is black and white, and everyone is happy, all of the time. Everyday is the same. No one fights or even argues! The tv show is set in the 1940's or so.
The women aren't allowed to think. The husband walks in the door, says "honey I'm home" and walks into the kitchen to his smiling wife, who has lovingly prepared his dinner.
It's a weird one! But thought provoking yet again LOL At how much society has changed. I can't imagine being a wife back in those times! Haha I think Paul would probably faint if he walked in the door to a clean house, smiling wife, dinner cooked and kids waiting to see him with similing faces. Our reality is more like... Paul comes home, I'm still sitting with my laptop playing on facebook, I've thought about cleaning up the kitchen from breakfast, (but come to the conclusion that what's the point cos the kids are only gonna trash it again) dogs hungry, cats are hungry, cleos in her room napping or msning, Lachie is glued to a basketball match on the tv, Andy is shouting at the playstation or anyone or anything else that is annoying him, and I have no idea what we are gonna eat for dinner HAHAHA.
That's my Pleasantville!

At first sight...
I was up early this morning... haha well, yes, I am up early every morning! by choice. I watched this movie on Foxtel called At First Sight. It was about a blind guy, who got his sight back via an operation, and was based on a true story. I couldn't help but draw parallels to the thought of Andy not having DS. I missed the first 20 minutes or so of the movie, so not sure how the story started out. But basically he had a girlfriend, she was with him when he went for the surgery that would possibly restore his sight. It did.
His reaction to becoming a sighted person left me with soooooo many thoughts! He couldn't cope. He was a 25 year old man, and had been blind since birth. He had no perception of facial expressions or emotion. He couldn't read. He walked into mirrors. He experienced jealousy (cos he could see it) He went to a party and everyone started dancing Y.M.C.A. ... he couldn't do it, cos of course he had never seen it before. Looking at tall buildings gave him vertigo. He still needed to touch food to realise what it was. He was served up a crayfish, and was astounded that people actually ate something that looked like that.
Then there was his partner... Her original expectations became obvious as the story went on. She obviously thought that gaining sight would improve his quality of life. That the fact he was blind meant he was missing out on so much. Of course she had no idea of the hurdles he would encounter transferring from being blind to being sighted. She couldn't cope either... with the fact that gaining sight didn't automatically turn him into a sighted person! He could "see" but he also coudn't "see" He really didn't know how to use his sight.
And then my mind started ticking over... I have had the discussion, and read a few discussions on whether I would take the DS out of Andy if I could. I have always said no, I wouldn't, because Andy is who he is, and we love him just as he is. Although, I will concede that that doesn't mean the thought hasn't crossed my mind as to whether he would have a better life if he didn't have DS. I watched the whole movie, with DS in my mind, and how many of us must think about the quality of life that our kids have, and whether their lives would be enhanced if they didn't have DS. And at the conclusion of the movie, I am at peace in my mind that Andy is Andy, and taking away the DS would quite possibly, as it did for this man, make his life so complicated that we would wish he had it back!
What would life be like for Andy if he didn't have DS? Would it automatically make him a super sports star? Would he stop having anger management issues ( haha that is a slight exaggeration, but I like the term...) would he be "smart" ? His 18 year old sister still has trouble reading a clock, so would taking away his DS mean that he would be able to tell the time? Would society think any different of him? He would still look the same... How would his personality change? Would he actually WANT to learn all the stuff that his intellect had previously prohibited him from learning? The quesitons are endless really.
In the end, the mans eye disease returned, only 5 weeks after he became sighted. It was like he was releived that it was happening. He had quality of life. He was happy. It was the society around him that thought that having sight would make him a happier person.
Oh, and then there was his mum, who had been his primary carer. When he woke up from surgery, sighted, he no longer needed her. He no longer needed the safe haven that had been his home forever, cos of course he could see now, so he could live anywhere. He moved in with his girlfriend. His mother was devastated. She went overnight from having a son who needed her assistance on a daily basis, to him not really needing her at all! And I could see myself in her! Imagine waking up tomorrow and not needing to do anything for Andy, ever again!!! Whilst that is a scenario that I sometimes crave, the reality would be, that it would knock you for six!
Food for thought hey...

I'm in !!!
I'm back in !!! Yes, after many many attempts, I have finally remembered the right email and password combination to get back into my blog. And yes Di, you have inspired me to keep blogging, and hopefully more regularly. I just need to make time to do it !
I'm sure this is all bought on by menopause brain. My memory is shot! Well I guess add to that a hectic year, which for the most part is over. Thank goodness!
The house of Bugg is in a much relaxed state right now. Cleo has finished her VCE. In all honesty I never thought she would complete it. So I am very proud of her for seeing it through. It has been a looooooooong road. After sucumbing to the anxiety gene, (during year 9) that seems to run in the family (thanks Nana, and Great Nana, and probably Great Great Nana) Cleo has done an amazing job to get her life together and continue to go to school. Add to that a toxic boyfriend, who we ditched about a year ago (That was a major accomplishment in all our lives haha) and then the poor kid thinks she's with the love of her life, and that ended with an almighty thump days after her 18th Birthday. And still with all of this, she managed to stick it out and PASS.
So we are rejoicing in the relaxed atmosphere of no commitments LOL She doesn't have a job, well she has a casual job at her beloved Nash Hotel, so that's cool. I am really a big beleiver in that they need some chill time after all these years of school. I am on her back to get a job, but the reality is that I am okay with her chilling for a few months. (Just wont tell her that hehe)
Haha yes!!! She PASSED. I am still amazed by it, and so very proud of her.
I haven't had to wake her to get out of bed for several weeks now, and you have no idea how that has affected me HAHA in a good way!!! It is soooooo less stressful to know that how she fills in her day is her concern and not mine. I don't care if she sleeps all day LOL And I have already delighted myself on a couple of occassions where she has slept and not woken herself up to attend some social function, to be able to say when she gets up and has a little hissy fit... It's up to you luv :) you want to do these things, organise your time hehehe.
That's probably enough wafflilng for one day.
I will add that I am seriously suffering the effects of menopause. Hot flushes are the absolute pits! I am constantly tired and fell like someone is standing me in front of a fire about 3 or 4 times an hour. I'm off to the GP in the next few days, and am considering having a go at HRT just to give myself a break.

yeah yeah... been slack again
I didn't realise how long it's been since I blogged again!!! My world has been moving at a million miles and hour, just for a change
Miss Cleo only has a few weeks to go til VCE is finally over. OMG I am soooo looking forward to the day that she never ever ever has to go to school again. If she ever does go to any form of Uni, I guess it will be because it's to do something that she enjoys!!! I don't even care if she stays in bed til lunch time everyday for 6 months haha. This year has been mammoth!! and she's not even doing hard subject.
Ahhhhhhh the stress THE STRESSSSSS
Lachie Bugg is having a ball with his basketball, and so is Paul for that matter! He is trying out for a Geelong Rep. team during the next school holidays. He is the quiet achiever. Never says a lot, but does a lot! We got him some new basketball shoes last weekend. Size 13 HAHAHA His feet are massive!! But they were no where near the biggest sizes available. It's amazing how big these kids feet are growing these days LOL If he gets into a rep team it will mean driving to the other side of Melbourne every Friday night to play. That will be interesting. But he is a really good player apparently, so it will a great opportunity for him if he gets in.
And Andy Bugg has been going soooo well at school. Last week he actually dressed himself I think 3 days in a row. HAHAHA yes that excites me!!! He seems to be having a burst of speech improvement again at the moment. Which is very exciting. He has been doing heaps of basketball to. Apparently his skills are improving. His off court abilities are also outstanding... he is really really good and yelling at the refs if he thinks they make a bad call!! Can be a bit embarassing as sometimes the refs think it's Paul. LOL
Andy's playing in a Special Olympics tournament in October in Wodonga, it's on the last weekend of the school holidays. Should be great! The Special Olympics days are so inspiring. It is amazing seeing so many people with Down Syndrome all playing their hearts out on the basketball court.
I have been busy busy with my sewing. It really does keep my mind occupied! Which is something I need to do. I could do with a few 48 hour days though HAHA I've got loads of ideas, but just not enough time to sew them all!
I shouldn't leave Pauly off here should I ! Since I've crapped on about the rest of the family. Paul is busy with basketball, as usual. It's been driving me crazy a little, as he is basically tied up with basketball 6 days a week! Great that he has a hobby, and one that involves Lachie, but yeah... Lets just say it has definately had an impact on my sanity.
Well it's Sunday morning here, and for once Cleo slept at someone elses house. Yay !!! so there are no bodies on our lounge room floor. I really don't mind cos it's great that kids fell comfortable staying here, but it is nice to get up and not be counting the extras this morning.

Room13
I was browsing EB yesterday morning. I clicked on this link someone had posted and OMG it opened up an amazing blog!!! This blog is made by a teacher who teaches at a special school somewhere in Victoria. I can't beleive how many fantastic sites she has sourced. The dedication to her students is outstanding!! I think this lady needs to be cloned...
She also has a link to a seperate blog which is all about the classroom she teaches in. OMG if only there were more teachers like this, our kids would be thriving and we would all have a lot less grey hairs. Hahaha Paul even joked... find out where she teaches, we are moving LOL pity her students are quite a bit younger than Andy.
I've put a link to it at the side of my blog. This is a site I am going to be visiting alot!!!!! Make sure you check it out.

I'm chuffed!!!
I decided to take my body measurements today. I wrote them all down when I joined Fernwood, which was in July last year. So today I did some comparisons.
Well I am impressed!! I have lost 8 cm of my waist, hips and thighs, and only 5cm of my boobs. Hahaha Oh how good is that. I really can't afford to loose in the boob area, so I am really happy with the result. I was atight size 12, bordering on 14 when I started, now I am an easy size 10, fitting into the occasional 8's. I've basically dropped 10kg.
I'm glad I did it, cos I have been lacking a little in gym motivation, but that has given me the vavavoom to get back into it.

What a day ...
Yesterday morning I got up, thinking, today is gonna be boring as... nothing planned... boys will wanna hang out at home, as usual. And then.......
8 am a girlfriend pops in for coffee. LOL yes!!! 8am Haha I got up at about 6 am so it wasn't a problem. I wave her goodbye and 10.15 and my mum arrives for a coffee. I'm thinking... I am gonna be drinking coffee all day LOL .
Then Rach calls... " Wanna take the kids out for a picnic? " I make the suggestion to the ferals, and to my suprise, they all said yes ! So we made a decision that we could all fit in the one car LOL Kinda sardinish but nevertheless doable. I have a Prado with 8 seats. It comes in handy now and then. Cleo suggested Lorne was the place to go. So Lorne it was. Cleo decided to call her mate Mitch, he lives about half way to Lorne, so we stopped of and offloaded a couple of kids to his car, and continued on.
Lorne is on the Great Ocean Road. It's funny, living so close to it, we never really appreciate how magical it is. The drive to Lorne is basically right on the coast, from just past Anglesea, cliffs on one side, beach on the other. And Lorne is right on the beach. Takes about an hour from our place.
We had an enjoyable few hours down there. Played at the park for a bit. The big kids had just as much fun on the swings as the little kids LOL Then it was off for an ice cream. Clearly the highlight of Maurices day LOL We went down to the beach but the tide was right in. So we jumped back in the Bugg bus and headed back toward Geelong, and ended up finding a nice little river outlet for the kids to have a splash.
Was a great day out. Rach and I are now inspired to rent a motorhome and go road tripping LOL Kids... well they are not so keen... but who cares what they think hahahahaha.
This the view from the car. This part of the road is actually quite inland. Most of the time you are right on the edge of the ocean.
The gang enjoying an ice cream. They were yummy

School holidays
It's school holidays here in Vic. We have almost made it through week one LOL I was fortunate enough to have several Andy free days!!! Paul took him up to the house and Bright on Sunday and they came back Tuesday. Andy just loves it up there. They did all the usual stuff, went to the Cosy Kangaroo for dinner, to Harrietville for ice cream and lots of walks along the creek. I was gonna go with them, but Lachie didn't want to come, and didn't think he was quite ready to be left home alone !!
Here's some pics...

Mental Pause... Whinge whinge whinge
Haha I'm on a roll now.
Well here is some trivial crap to entertain or bore you silly. I am going through early menopause. And it is shit !!! thus the title mental pause, cos it drives you mental!! Yes really...
I get these stupid hot flushes. It's like your standing in front of the heater in the middle of summer. One minute I am fine, next thing burning up !!! It really really pisses me off. I am seeing my homeopath for it, and he is able to stop the flushes, but then a few months later they come back. This last time they have come back so strong !!! I asked the gp about hormone replacement, but he actually said, stick with your homeopathics, it really is the best option. Bahhhhh best option maybe, but not the quickest option. But yes, yes, I will persist lol.
I've done lots of reading about it all, and I have the classic symptoms. Haha pretty much, that I am a bitch to live with ! I am moody and grumpy hehe. It's the classic, no matter what they say to me, it's the wrong thing... I'm not like it all the time, but I know I am a lot of the time... ahh well they can deal with it HA.
And I blame the flushes pretty much for all of it! Cos I am now also sleep deprived, cos I get woken up like every hour in a sweat. Then you throw the covers off, cool down and drift back to sleep, and wake up ten minutes later freezing !!! And my neck hurts, cos I sleep in stupid positions to try and cool down.
Soooo if any of you are unfortunate enough to join me in this stage of life... now you know... it is shit LOL whinge, whinge, whinge !!!
Oh of course, I must concede, there is one bonus, I haven't had a period in almost 12 months!
In my next life I'm gonna be a male hahaha

An Update... for Cathy lol
Well yes, it has been quite a while since I have posted in here!
Andy is in year 8 now at high school. It is turning out to be a long hard process to get a suitable program up and running for him. We did have a really successful meeting with the school only a couple of weeks ago and..... NEWS FLASH..... They revealed that Andy is not capable of following a regular year 8 curriculum !!!!! Wow !!! this was supposed to suprise us ?
Anyway despite this revelation, the school is actually really really good, and positive, and they are now developing an ILP for Andy. Thát's and individual learning plan, which he had right through primary school ! But it's all good! Andy is now involved in building a boat, he is also about to start a gardening program with a volunteer, who is the dad of one of the staff. He's a lovely retired man who is driving his family crazy because he has time on his hands lol. They are also doing lots of other stuff to make Andys program spot on. Hopefully this will work out and he will remain happy at school.
He really loves going, and the social life is booming !!! He hangs out with Cleo and the other year 12's at recess, and they love it lol.
Next..... Miss Cleo is going pretty well with year 12. She has had a couple of anxious moments. They do these things called Sacs. I'm still not sure what they are, but they form part of the formal assessment, and the kids hate them lol. Considering where she was at 2 years ago, she is doing a fantastic job. She is so talented with her painting, and is really putting a great effort in that class. Cleo also has a lovely new boyfriend, Fraser, or Frizzle, as he is affectionaly known. Due to his mass of frizzy hair!!! He is a breath of fresh air after the loser that she went out with for 2.5 years. (Yes, his name is now banned in our house lol )
Fraser is also in year 12 with Cleo and is a great support for school work.
and..... Lachie, or Loc Loc as he is being called a lot these days. Mozz calls him Loc Loc and it has really stuck. Lachie is cruising... as usual. He's playing heaps of basketball. Got a grand final this Wednesday, and another on Friday. Pretty much between training and games, we have basketball every day of the week! Yeah it's great !!! Apart from that he is doing really well at school to. He is the cruiser lol. Well you gotta get one out of three that doesn't cause to much trouble !!!!!
So that's the kids...
Me... not a lot of excitement in my life at the moment. I have been thinking a lot these last few months about where I am gonna be in a few years time. With Cleo out of school next year, and Lachie only one year behind, I think it is time to focus on me. Soooooo I am seriously thinking about returning to school !!! well university, and becoming a primary school teacher. It might just be the perfect option. I am fortunate that I don't need to earn an income right now, so it feels like it's the right time to do this. I have a lovely girlfriend who thinks she might do it with me, and that would be absolutely awesome !!! In fact she was Andys aide at primary school, and now is my girlfriend.
I really need something to think about other than just being a mum ! Actually I am going quite stir crazy hahaha, cos all my friends work and I am craving adult company , and something to stimulate my mind.
I sometimes think back to before I had Cleo. I looked up an old resume, and my last official title was Business Analyst!!! I had a laugh to myself OMG I was a Business Analyst!!! hahaha. My job was rewriting a rule book for the company !!! and now.... I cook clean and slave over the family LOL Oh, I am not complaining!!! Just comparing. Such a massive difference. So yeah, time to get my brain going again...
It's a big commitment, but as my sister pointed out, even by the time I finish, I will still have a good 15 years of working life in me LOL Pity the kiddies who get me those last five years or so hahaha.
Welll that will be enough for now I think. Cathy I promise to update more often LOL
A little self indulgence
Yesterday, my sister, Rach, and I went to Daylesford for the day. After Rach's hubby being in America for 10 days and me foolishly (only kidding Rach) offering to help her look after herself and her sick children, which in turn has seen our entire family, and extended family (LOL = Cleos men... ) all have a crack at the vomiting bug. WE deserved a day out LOL .
We didn't have any firm plan, just that Daylesford was where we would head, and if we could find somewhere, we might have a swim.
Well....... we found somewhere!!! Hepburn Springs Bath House. OMG I have never seen a set up like it. The pools are filled with 50% mineral water and 50% salt cholrinated. We bought the Sanctuary package. This gave us access to all the different pools. The first one we indulged in was a salt floatation pool. It's this magnificent round pool with a high salt and magnesium content so you float really easily. Um, I still sank LOL It has this magnicent cone shaped roof with a massive round skylight at the top of it, so you can float around in the pool and look at the sky and the trees while you lay there.
Then we moved onto the massage pool. You lay on these beds submerged in the water and the spa jets "invigorate" you LOL The jets are quite powerful and shoot water all over your body. Lets just say, they are possibly an alternative to colonic irrigation also !!! I enjoyed it LOL Rach thought they were a bit harsh. Rach had a go at the sauna, while I stayed in this pool for a bit more invigoration LOL
Next on the agenda was the big pool. Just a beautiful big long pool with a wall where the water flows over, set with a wall of windows so you are looking outside while your relaxing away.
Bloody magnificent!!!

Take a look, if you are ever after a completely self indulgent experience, this is the place to go. They also do all the usual beauty treatments, like facials and massages etc. We didn't do that this time, but I think I might indulge next visit.
Thanks Rach :) I had a great day. Was great timing to, so near to the end of the school holidays, when we are all feeling frazzled and in need of some time away from kids !!!

It's over
Boy oh boy!!! I cannot wait until we are past the teenage years. We have had a turmultous few months with Miss Cleo and her now-thank-goodness ex boyfriend. Who would of thought that she would end up with a bloody pshyco, manipulative, posessive, emotional abuser !!! Haha sounds really bad doesn't it! Well it bloody well was! Anyway, we think we are finally rid of this pathetic person from our lives.
So last night, in kind of a strange celebratory way, our lovely friend Andrew D, who has been counselling Cleo for the last couple of months, came over to our place and cooked Mexican for us for dinner ! Hahaha how't that for a bonus!!! First he helps us through some of the toughest days of our lives and now he is cooking dinner for us! It was kind of something that came about from one of his visits here. Cleo and Fraser were making nachoes, and Andrew says, thats not how you do it! When all this shit is over I am gonna make you real nachoes. Well I tell you what, he did a bloody sensational job!!! We will never make nachoes the same again LOL
It seems we have stopped the ex in his tracks... for now. So it was kind of a mini celbration. Although we did have another hiccup overnight! Not sure if he is involved in it or not, but time will tell.
Those of you who have boys... be thankful!!! One daughter is enough !!
